Tag You're It

Once again I am excited to tell you about the new challenge at the Sisterhood.  As you can see by the title of this post, our challenge is to make a tag, which could be used on any project. For my creation, I chose this vintage photo from Pinterest. I haven't made many tags, so I am very happy with the way this one turned out. The tag and sentiment were aged using a dauber and SU Sepia ink. Also added some to the image to give it an aged look.

 

I am trying to decide whether to keep this tag and use it on a gift or make a piece of framed art. The sentiment is from Hellen Keller "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart."

More Flowers

Today I have another stamp set that I purchased at the "Adventures in Stamping" convention in Akron, Ohio last month. This stamp set by Rubbernecker stamps is simply called "Layered Flowers". The petals were stamped and misted with water before stamping. Then the detail stamp was inked with black and stamped over the petals. The background was stamped with the "Branch Shadow" background stamp (using SU Mellow Moss ink) also by Rubbernecker stamps. This is another very versatile stamp set. The recipe is listed below the photo.

Ink: SU Summer Sunshine, Mellow Moss, Black India 
Embellishments: Butterfly and Flower Stickers purchased at the local dollar store

May Flowers

About 2 weeks ago, my friend Judy and I attended a stamp/scrapbooking convention Akron, Ohio. This is a two-day event held at the John Knight convention center. There are always over 100 vendors at this event selling stamps, dies, paper, punches, etc. I purchased some new stamps and dies that I am excited to share with you. The card below was created using the "Flowers in the Breeze" stamp set by Rubbernecker stamps. I used markers to color the flowers and larger stems and leaves, misted with water and stamped on white cardstock. Next, I used a darker green marker to color the thin detail stems and stamped over the flowers and leaves. The recipe follows the picture.

I love how misting the stamp before gives the image a watercolor effect. I'm going to stamp more of this image in different colors and save them for future use. The possibilities for this set is endless. Could be used for "Thinking of You", "Mother's Day", "Birthday", "Get Well" and "Sympathy".

Welcome Baby!

This week's challenge at the Sisterhood hosted by Lisa is to create a project for "Baby". Maybe a baby card, gift box or other gift. I just purchased this Memory Box Carriage die to start making baby cards for craft shows. Isn't it precious? The background paper is from a baby paper pack, just can't remember the name of the company. I'll have to go back through my stash and find it. It is hard to tell from the picture, but the baby carriage is cut from glittered cardstock and I put purple gems on the wheel centers. I added lace to divide the top and bottom of the card and added these cute paper roses.

Hurray for Sunshine

What a busy week this has been. Between doctor appointments, dark rainy days and my husband's car breaking down, I haven't had any time to get into my craft room. Thankfully, appointments are done, the car is fixed and it is a beautiful sunny day. Today I want to share a 3D project with you. I purchased some acrylic photo frames and decided to make desk post-it-note holders. Each holder will have a pen, but I forgot to add the pen when I took the photo. (Yet another senior moment.)

Wings n' Things

It's time for a new challenge at the Sisterhood of Crafters. For this challenge, we are asking you to use birds, butterflies, bees (anything with wings) for the focus on your project. I chose this image of birds from Pinterest. I love all the colors in the image and was able to find designer paper that fit perfectly.

Fairy Blessed

As many of you know, I am a big fan of Pinterest, so it will come as no suprise to you when you learn that is where I found these images. There were so many to choose from, so I pinned them to my board for future use. These cards will be used for blank note cards, such as "Hello", "Just a Note" and "Thinking of You". I am going to put them in sets of 6 cards and envelopes.

The base of each card is SU cardstock and the designer papers are just some loose pieces from my stash. Just have to add the sentiments and they will be ready to package for craft shows.

Old World Map Cards

After finding these Old World Map tags on pinterest, I decided to use them for cards. The tags were too big for my card size, so I cut them down to fit. I never seem to have enough masculine cards and these would be perfect for birthday, Father's Day and Retirement. I used SU Ballet Blue cardstock for the base, basic black for the mat and embossed the card with Darice's Swirl embossing folder. All that is left to add are the sentiments and maybe some Hemp cord.

Tomorrow, I have some note cards to share with you. I am taking the weekend off to prepare for Easter with my daughters and their families.

Sailing Ship Cards

I found a pack of Nautical die cuts at our local craft store and thought they would be perfect for masculine cards. These four ships and the compass really stood out, so here is how my design turned out. These cards could be used for birthday, retirement or Father's Day. I may have to go and buy another pack, since I like the way my project came together.

Here is the Recipe:

Base: White Cardstock

Paper: Old World Map (?)

Ships & Large Compasses: K & Co. Die Cuts

Small Compasses: found on Pinterest

Embellishment: Hemp cord

It is hard to tell from the picture, but 2 of the ships have glitter on them.

Gift Card Holders

This week I have been working on more projects for some craft shows this fall. Yesterday I began creating these gift card holders which are very easy to put together. Just 1 piece of cardstock for the base and 4 pieces of designer paper for decoration. You will find the directions posted after the picture.

Over the weekend I want to get all the base pieces cut, then I can work on the panels for each card as I put them together.

Directions:

1. Cut base 4 1/2" x 7 3/4". Score at 2 1/2" and 6".

2. Place 1 piece of sticky tape on each side of small panel and fold up to create pocket for gift card.

3. Top panel (scored at 2") folds down. Corners may be rounded off with corner punch if you prefer.

4. The 2 panels measuring 2 1/4" by 4 1/4" will be glued to the front and back of top fold.

5. Glue (or tape) the 1 1/2" by 4 1/4" panel to bottom inside panel.

6. Glue (or tape) the 3 1/4" by 4 1/4" to back panel.

7. Use the 1" x 4 1/4" panel to make the belly band by bending strip around holder and glueing (or
    taping.

 I used the 1 1/4" circle punch and the 1 1/2 scalloped punch to make the decoration for the belly
 band.

White on White

Today's challenge at the Sisterhood of Crafters was a true challenge for me. I have never been very creative at using one color for a card. When I found this Memory Box die of the poppies, I decided to give it a try. The butterflies are also a die, but unfortunately I don't remember what company they are from. I know they are called "Fancy Butterflies." The recipe for this card can be found below.

 Recipe:

Card Base: White Cardstock

Embossing Folders: Dotted Swiss, (forgot the name of the other folder)
Embellishments: White embroidered ribbon
Dies: Memory Box Poppies, Fancy Butterflies

New Granddaughter

No pictures to share with you today, but I do have exciting news. Our third granddaughter was born Saturday night at 9:16pm. She weighs 6lbs 5 oz, is 18 inches long and her name is Mikayla Hadley. Hubby and I went to the hospital after church yesterday to see my daughter and her family. The baby is beautiful. She looks just like her mommy and has her hair color (reddish brown). Unfortunately, we didn't get to spend time with her older brother and sister because they were just leaving to spend the day with their other grandparents. Mom and baby get to go home today around noon. Our son-in-law has the week off to help her get settled in.

Time to Play

I am so glad to be back with you today. My husband and I went to Amish country on Monday and the weather was beautiful. Unfortunately, we both forgot to take our cameras. We did a little shopping and had lunch before starting home. On Tuesday, we went to dinner at our favorite A & W root beer stand, then stopped and looked around at a bookstore on the way home. That evening a friend of my husband's who married and moved to France stopped by. He was in the states on business and wanted to spend some time with us before heading back to France. He brought his Ipad and showed us some gorgeous photos of the Black Forest in Germany, Austria and France. Hadn't seen him in quite a few years, so it was great catching up.

Today I had lots of time to play in my craft room. One of the projects I have been working on is "Gum Package Covers." After the photo you will find the directions for making these cute covers.

Directions:

Cut designer paper into a 3" by 6 1/2" strip. Score along 6" side at 1 3/4, 2 1/4, 4 3/4 and 5 1/4.

Fold all score lines. Place sticky tape on short end, wrap around gum pack and seal to long piece. Decorate as you wish.


I used K & Co Life's Occasion designer paper to make cover, then layered 1 1/4" circle onto a 1 1/2" scalloped circle punched from SU papers. (Sentiments were printed from my computer, then punched with SU punches.)

I used foam dots to place circles on covers. The birds and butterflies are from K & Co.

Road Trip

Since my husband has today and tomorrow off, we are going to take a couple of day trips. I know one of our trips will be to Amish country about a 45 minute drive from home. The second trip is still to be decided. We make about 2-3 trips a year to Amish country for cheese and lunch at one of our favorite restaurants. We also have to stop at one of the bakeries to get my husband a homemade custard pie and I want to visit the Christmas shop that is open year round. Hopefully, I will have some good pictures to share with you. The temperature for today is supposed to be around 48 and tomorrow the high of 67 is predicted.  (But this is Ohio and the weather can change quickly.)

Card Set 3

Today's set of cards were stamped with black India Ink. I don't remember what company made the stamp set, but I purchased it from Joann's Craft Store.
 

Since the top and bottom of the card are rounded, it is hard to get a ribbon tied so that it looks right. I may just make bows and add them the the flower stalks with a glue dot. I like to keep my one layer cards simple. Too much embellishment takes away from the image.

I hope you are enjoy looking at my simple cards. Only two more sets of these and then I have some vintage note cards to share.

Card Set 2

Are you ready for another set of one layer cards? The set of stamps used for these cards, I purchased at Archiver's a few years ago. They are one of my go-to stamp sets when I need a quick card for sympathy or thank you. The pre-made embossed cards are by Studio G and the ink is SU's Soft Suede. I think it is the perfect color for plant silhouette stamps. Sometimes black ink can be a little harsh and I wanted something with a softer tone.

I think I will add a little bird or butterfly to each of the cards. Have to go through my stash and see what stickers or dies I have. Then some can go to our church card ministry and the others for craft shows this fall.

One Layer Cards

Hello everyone! Over the next few days, I will be sharing some of the cards I made at the Women's Craft Retreat this past weekend. It might have been snowing and cold outside, but inside it was warm and cozy with lots of snacks and friendly crafters. The first five sets of cards are one layer cards that will be used for sympathy, encouragement, thinking of you etc. Most of the cards do not have sentiments as yet. I want to divide them into groups and then pull what our church needs. The rest will be stamped and used for personal use or for craft shows this fall. 

I used Black India Ink and SU's Soft Suede for the silhouettes. Most of the stamp sets were also from SU. I can't remember the companies of the other stamps, however, if you would like to know what company any of the stamps were purchased from, just leave a comment and I will find out. I used Marvy Markers to stamp the colored flowers on this set. The bases were pre-made embossed cards from Studio G. I still want to add some ribbon and embellishments before mailing.

Wild About You

I am so happy to be hostess of this week's challenge at the Sisterhood. The focus for this challenge is to use an animal on your project. Since Easter is upon us, my mind went to all the fun treats the kids receive from the Easter Bunny. My project is a topper for a candy bag. I stared with the background cut with my Nestibilities Labels One die on beige cardstock. The monkey was made with my 2 inch circle punch for the head, 1 inch and 3/4 inch circles for the ears, mini flower punch cut in half for the hair, large oval punch for the mouth 1/2 inch punch and 1/4 punch for the eyes and free hand cut nose. I used 1 3/8 and 1 1/4 inch scalloped punches for the sentiment. The vine was cut with framelits from two shades of green (sorry, I don't remember the company who made the framelits). After filling the bag with candy, I stapled the base to the bag, then added the vines, monkey and sentiment. I hope my grandchildren will like their treat bags.

Camp Carl Retreat

So glad to be back with you today. My friend, Judy, and I had a wonderful time at our retreat. Over the next few days, I will be sharing some of the projects I worked on. Today I want to share some pictures from our weekend. Unfortunately, I only have 4 pictures because my camera batteries died on me. Even the extras I took didn't last. After a short phone call to my husband, I learned that my battery charger wasn't working.  These pictures were taken at the main lodge, where we worked on crafts and ate our meals. The cabin we were assigned to had room for 12 people with a community room for relaxing or cooking snacks. This camp was beautiful, the food was excellent and the staff were so generous and courteous. I am looking forward to next year's retreat, which will be in April. They will have horses at the camp if we want to go horseback riding. Now for the details.

The 8 foot tables were set in a squares of four, so everyone had plenty of room to work. Kathy (on the left) and Ronnie were our crafting partners. We all shared stamps, punches, snacks and stories.
They also had the room across from us in the cabin. 

Tara (in the gray sweatshirt) was the life of the party. She kept everyone laughing with her family stories and tormenting her friend, Trisha.

 

 

Trisha (in the red pants) brought a radio, so we also spent lots of time singing to the oldies.  Everyone in this group were scrapbookers.

 

We had 30 ladies at this retreat. Most of them did scrapbook, but we had about 8-10 who were cardmakers. 

This was at a church camp called "Camp Carl". They rent to the public during the off season. My friend Judy and I are hoping to plan a retreat here next year.

Sugar and Spice

I wanted to share one more project with you before leaving for my Ladies Craft Retreat this weekend. I made this tag to use for a piece of canvas artwork for my younger granddaughter's room. The sentiment will be "Sugar and spice and all things nice." Since I will be gone until late Sunday afternoon, I have to set everything aside and finish the project when I get back. Will post a picture of the finished project sometime next week.
